A movie locker is essentially an online video storage space where people can “own” motion pictures in the virtual world and then play them on any connected device. With the advent of the Ultraviolet movie format and even such companies as Hulu and Netflix, the idea of being able to access a movie from whatever you’re using has several benefits. For instance, using an online movie locker lets you start watching a movie on your smartphone, continue watching it on your laptop, and potentially finish watching it on your TV at home. You would essentially have a token for use in the movie locker, so you would no longer be tied to the physical ownership of the DVD that the movie is on. For those of us with tons of DVDs on shelves, this could represent a real space saver. The other great thing about having a movie in a movie locker is that you aren’t tied to a format, so the device you buy next year will still be able to access the movie. Obviously, the appeal of a movie locker is the ownership of something that isn’t streaming off Netflix or Blockbuster, or may be kept in limited circulation like back episodes of TV shows. .
